Sony has just announced that there will be a new product announcement on April 20th, 2020. Just ahead of already cancelled NAB Show 2020. Since NAB show 2020 is video related event, so Sony may finally announce the long awaited Sony a7S III/a7S IV.
Recently, Bloomberg said that Sony has nixed some features it had planned for an unnamed future mirrorless camera model (could be Sony a7IV or a7SIII) due to the scarcity of certain hardware, namely DRAM and NAND flash memory. Sony is currently focus their limited DRAM resources for the new PS5 production.
The 15MP Sony IMX521CQR sensor was first leaked several months ago. Now since Sony a7S III is rumored to be announced soon, it is very likely that Sony a7S III will use this 15MP IMX521CQR sensor, you can take a look at full specs sheet of IMX521CQR below. Sony a7S III will shoot 4K60p video, and a possible of 61MP mode.
After Sony a9 II (B&H Photo Video/Adorama/Amazon) officially announced, Sony currently has no new camera code got registered, this means there will be no new Sony cameras to be announced in next 1-3 months. The long awaited Sony a7S III is expected to be announced in early 2020, probably at NAB Show in April.
Sony is expected to announce a new high-end full frame E-mount mirrorless camera soon, probably ahead of IBC 2019 this month to early next month. Sony currently has one new camera code “WW942051” registered, this camera code has same 5.8GHz Wi-Fi as Sony a7R IV, so this camera could be Sony a7S III or a9 II.
Sony currently has three unannounced camera codes. This means we will see three Sony cameras to be announced within one or two months. According to Nokishita Camera, there is a possibility that all these three models are interchangeable lens cameras.
